Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sugar
6T Cocoa
1 1/2 cups cold water
3 tsp baking soda
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups of mayonnaise (Hellmans or Dukes)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare pan(s) with shortening and cocoa to prevent sticking.
Mix sugar and cocoa together. Add the cold water and the baking soda to the sugar/cocoa mixture. Add the flour mixture (to which the baking powder has been added) Add the vanilla, and add the mayonnaise and mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour.
Cool and frost with vanilla or chocolate frosting of your choice.
Note: This was a frequent cake at family celebrations in our house when I was a child! Who didn’t love it!
